Assistant Professor (Lecturer) in Environmental Engineering

The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China, a pioneer in Sino-foreign tertiary education, is rapidly expanding. Applications are invited for the above post in the Faculty of Science & Engineering based at the University of Nottingham Ningbo, China. Engineering is one of the newest divisions at the University but is expected to become one of the biggest as the University rolls out its detailed, long term plans. The University expects to triple its number of engineering students to over 2,000 within the next few years. Master of Science degrees will be offered in a range of subjects. The first crop of UNNC engineering students will graduate in 2012 and Master of Science degrees will be offered in a range of subjects in the near future.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, participate in assessing and examining students and play a lead role in collaborative research projects. The role will also involve supervision of PhD and masters students. Ongoing original research and publications in the successful candidate’s specialist field is expected, as is participation in high-level conferences.

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant discipline (or be close to completion), together with excellent research skills, ideally supported by an established track record of high quality research outputs. The ability to attract funding for major research projects is a distinct advantage. Experience of teaching and tutorial work in relevant subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate level in an international English-speaking institution is also essential.

Salary will be within the range £32,620 – £43,840 per annum depending on qualifications and experience (salary can progress to £50,822 per annum, subject to performance). In addition, an attractive package including accommodation allowance, travel allowance and insurance will be provided for international appointments. This post is available from 1 September 2011 and will initially be offered on a fixed-term contract with the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China for a period of up to seven years. This contract may be extended on an indefinite basis by mutual agreement, subject to revised terms and conditions.
